September 2015 Birchbox - Better Together - Unboxing and Review!

Hello! Hope you're having a great day! For this post, I want to share with you guys my September 2015 Birchbox!
The theme this month was "Better Together" and it was supposed be a celebration of...us, the Birchbox subscribers! The design for this months box was based on the mood boards of three very special subscribers, Debbie Savage, Sara Qadeer, and Angela Coppola. I really love the different, colorful boxes we've been getting each month and I am curious to see what Birchbox is going to have us do with them at the end of the year.
Aw, thank you Birchbox!
Quick rundown: Birchbox is a $10 beauty subscription service that sends you five-ish beauty samples every month. You get a full sized product very rarely, and the value of the boxes are a bit on the lower side (like $15-$25 value; I don't think I've ever gotten a box that was worth less than what I paid). What makes Birchbox really awesome, though, is the reward system! For every product you get (and sometimes you do get more than five), you can review it on the Birchbox website and earn 10 points. For every 100 points you get, you get $10 to spend in the Birchbox store, which stocks all the full sizes of the samples they send. There are a ton of great brands and products to choose from, plus there's always a coupon or two you can use to save even more money. If you're interested in signing up for Birchbox, you can either use my referral link here (which would be much appreciated), or you can go to the Birchbox website directly.
Speaking of coupons, here's one I got in my box! These are the best coupons, the 20% off a $35+ purchase. The coupon code on the back was a unique one instead of the traditional TAKEOFF20 universal ones, but I ended up using it on an order already so I suppose I didn't have to keep it a secret!
The front side of the info card tells you a little bit more about the theme (actually, I use the word "theme" loosely when it comes to Birchbox. Like most subscription boxes, the products you get barely adhere to a theme, if they adhere at all and it seems like Birchbox has thrown themes to the side altogether at this point) and how you can reach out to Birchbox via social media.
The back of the info card is actually quite informative and you get what you products you received, the price of the full size item (though not the size so you still have to look it up if you want to calculate values), and a little blurb about the product itself. This month I got the standard five samples.
Going in the order of my info card, the first product I received is Benefit's Gimme Brow in the color Light/Medium.
This is a water-resistant fiber gel brow product that adds color and fullness with the swipe of a spoolie brush!
I actually already own this product and love it, so I'm super happy to get a smaller size to keep in my bag! The sample I received is at the top and my full size is at the bottom to give an idea of the size difference. The sample looks super tiny, but the full size itself is pretty small to begin with. The full size is 3g for $24, making the 1g sample worth about $8.
The next product is the one I picked for this month (at least I think it's the one I picked for this month...I think the other options were lame like a Pop eye shadow trio so I went with something I didn't know about). This is the Dear Clark Volumizing Tonic and, well, it adds volume to your hair. It is made in Texas, which is cool, and it is silicone-, sulphate-, phosphate-, paraben-, and synthetic colorant- free. The full size is 6fl oz for $26, so this 1fl oz sample is worth about $4.30.
This next product is one I'm very familiar with; this is the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser. I've used a lot of different products from Dr. Brandt, including this one! The first few times I've gotten this product (it used to be sampled everywhere) I wasn't too keen on it since I didn't think I needed help with my pores. Now I know better and that my pores need some help, so I'm more than happy to get this cleanser! It's supposed to help minimize the look of pores and leave skin feeling smooth and soft. The full size is 3.5fl oz for $35, so this 0.25fl oz sample is worth about $2.50.
Yup, I got another Harvey Prince perfume. I believe this is my fourth perfume sample this year (if not the fourth, then it is definitely the third) and I checked the option in my beauty profile to receive no more than four perfume samples a year, so we'll see if Birchbox adheres to that.
That being said, I actually really like this fragrance.  It's a citrus-floral scent and it's very uplifting. It has notes of Meyer lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, forsythia, and plumeria and you get a pretty big vial (it also has a spray applicator) to sample. The full size is 50mL for $55, so this 1.5mL sample is worth about $1.65.
The last product in my September 2015 Birchbox is a ModelCo Ultra Long-Lasting Lipstick in the color Smitten.
This lipstick is part of a trio and the color is described as a deep cranberry red.
The packaging is kind of cheap-feeling; the plastic is light and cheap and it does that annoying thing where the lipstick bullet doesn't retract all the way. This is it rolled all the way down; I always feel like I nick and mar my lipsticks when they stick out like this and, even though they have caps, it just feels kind of unhygenic to me.
You get a good amount of lipstick, though it's not very high quality.
It took a few passes to build this color up and it still seems a little sheer to me. It wasn't super creamy, but it wasn't super dry, either. Overall, I'm just not very impressed with this lipstick and, honestly, I don't think I've been that impressed with many ModelCo products that I've used in the past. The trio retails for $20, so this single lipstick is worth about $6.70.

Overall, I got four deluxe sized samples and one kind of full size (even though you have to buy it in a trio so it's not really). The total value of my September 2015 Birchbox was $23.15, so pretty average. I also got $5 worth of Birchbox points, which is where I think the value of a Birchbox subscription really is!

Thanks for reading! <3
